The Ñaá Ka Jani Collective

Located in the high mountainous region of Oaxaca, Mexico, the women of the Ñaá Ka Jani Basket Weaving Collective are fierce and unflinching. Maintaining a tradition that has been passed down from decades, this collective of mothers, wives, sisters and daughters intricately weave any imagined creation into the physical.

 

The Martinez Mendoza Family

Coming from the widely-known Zapotec town of Teotitlán del Valle, the Martinez Mendoza family is a combined powerhouse of talented flying shuttle loom weavers. Since 2021, we have had the pleasure of partnering with their daughters Isabel and Vicky, a duo force that can sew and weave any design to life.

Managing a town-wide collective of over 100 people is not an easy task, however Señora Juana Mendoza knows how to do it well and effortlessly. From the natural palm tree reserve of Cuicatlán, the women of this collective work to preserve and respect this precious resource, all while occupying it to weave complex designs under a well-crafted technique.

Siuamej Xonoijkitini Collective

From a rainy, tropical town in North East Puebla, Mexico comes the women of the Siuamej Xonoijkitini Collective, a group of Nahua artisan women who practice the art of jonote basket weaving. From the harvest of the jonote fiber to the final weaving process, these strong and valiant women can do it all.
