Boho Origins

The term Boho/ Bohemian as we know it today, comes from France. The term was used to describe Roma people and other individuals who lived in Paris. They were known to embrace the arts at the expense of the status quo. Today Boho is wildly popular and embraced in all kinds of spaces especially, as an interior design style. Although the Boho aesthetic does not follow strict rules it’s easily identifiable by its earthy, eclectic, and causal elements. The variety of elements can take on many different forms, but the end result creates a laidback and inviting space in your home.

Best Decor Materials?

As mentioned previously, there are no rules when it comes to Boho. Here are 4 ideas that can help create a solid foundation for Boho inspired decor.

  1. Plants

Bring the outdoors into your home with your favorite plants! Boho styling has a tendency to incorporate natural elements especially plants! They can be potted or hung, big or small, dried or fresh; whatever you think suits your space. Golden Pothos, Succulents, Aloe Vera, and Cacti are great beginner friendly plants. Finding a cute container to pair it with is essential, which ties into tip #2….

2. Mix patterns and textures!

It’s all about the details! Combining the natural shapes and textures of a houseplant with a unique container makes for the perfect boho vibe. Our plant baskets have a beautiful woven pattern that pairs perfectly with any small plant! Texture can also be incorporated by using rugs, pillows, throw blankets, Macrame pieces… the possibilities are endless!

3. Light sources

Lighting is important to any home decor style. It can impact the mood of a room, so making lighting a priority is no exception when it comes to Boho. Lighting can help bring a spotlight to some of the other elements of boho you want to show off! Also, make sure to use warm lighting to create the coziest ambiance possible!

Some lighting great lighting sources to start with:

  • Candles

  • Lamps

  • String lights

  • Open Windows

  • Wire lights

    4. Natural Materials

Boho design has been influenced by the use of natural materials. Popular choices in the Boho realm are Rattan, Raffia, Jute, Seagrass, and many more. People have been using natural materials to weave useful and beautiful home decor items for thousands of years. The best part is, a lot of these natural options are eco friendly in comparison to plastic home decor items! Our talented women artisans from Mexico make items with natural materials like Jonote and Palm Leaf, that are perfect to use as unique home decor pieces.
